Many countries have been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic. In the midst of the pandemic unfortunately misinformation and hysteria has grown. What’s lacking in leadership amid the sea of unnecessary opinions, is a staunch message of hope. The world has seen plagues, animal extinction, wars, depression and yet we’re still here. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS simply because we always have. The journey to our destination however comprises of a national quarantine filled with anxiety, boredom and self-neglect. So how does one adapt to a temporary quarantine lifestyle and not go insane? By taking an interest in self-care, continuously feed your brain and experience the world as much as you can right from your couch. Here are 5 tips on feeling beautiful and staying active during social separation.

1. Body: Online Trainer

Staying active goes hand-in-hand with feeling great about yourself. There are tons of free YouTube Channels on at-home workouts. Great options for at-home cardio include: jumping jacks, butt kicks and jumping rope. While YouTube provides a plethora of workout videos, there are some of you who may just need that extra push. Check out BodyBuilding.com. The platform offers tons of online training programs with a personal trainer that you can complete right at home. Plans start from $3.99 a month and the site offers over 2500 workouts for different goals. You’ll get a healthy dose of cardio and strength training which is great for toning. Hitting your summer body goals starts now. #socialseparation should not affect your summer body.

2. Mind: See The World from Your Couch

Virtual tours are becoming immensely popular as they allow us to tour places right from virtually anywhere. While there’s a host of museums and even national parks that offer free virtual tours, I picked 3 destinations that are wildly popular and frequently receive great reviews. Check them out!

The Louvre - the world’s largest art museum offers virtual tours of three of its most popular exhibits.

Versailles - take a tour of the opulent and scenic palace which played home to the iconic Marie Antoinette.

Machu Picchu - a site to see, Machu Picchu is the epitome of nature, history, and archeological greatness.

3.  Mind: New York Public Library

Feed the brain. NYPL is offering the ability to download free e-books through the SimpleyE app. New York’s historic landmark is giving the public 300,000+ options of downloadable e-books to choose from. Whether you’re into novels, Harry Potter, or productivity books like The 4-Hour Work Week, use NYPL as a resource. Fill your mind with knowledge instead of ongoing News-channel-hysteria.

4.  Beauty: Go back to work looking refreshed

Remember the mornings of puffy eyes, waking up tired, and trying to not fall asleep at work, etc. Lack of sleep wreaks havoc on your skin, which shows the first signs of aging. Take these next few weeks to refresh your skin. As owner of a cosmotologist, the #1 tip I give my clients is hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate! Hydrated skin stays supple, looks plump and can defy wrinkle or dull-looking skin over time. Try this Honey & Milk mask 2 - 3 times a week for hydrated and youthful skin. Honey is a humectant or moisturizing agent. It releases moisture and makes the skin soft and supple. Milk contains lactic aside which is an alpha-hydroxy acid. AHA’s are frequently used in exfoliating and removing dead skin cells.

Honey & Milk Recipe:

2-3 Tablespoons of Organic or Manuka Honey

*if honey is hard place glass jar in a pot of hot water.

1-2 Tablespoons of Whole Milk

Mix together

With cotton pad or clean fingers, gently spread mixture in an upward motion on clean dry or face.

Let sit for 15 minutes

Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Make sure to pat and NOT rub.

5. Beauty: Sleep

The skin is the body’s largest organ. When we don’t sleep or eat right one of the first places it shows up is our skin. As an aesthetician, well-rested skin needs 7-9 hours of rest. To ensure you get a good night’s sleep try these two things:

1. Put down the phone and the book. Reading, surfing the web tends to

keep our minds wide awake rather than get calming us into a night of

restful sleep.

2. Lavender Oil: There have been many opinions on lavender aroma

therapy, spritzing lavender on pillow cases, and taking in a whiff of

it before bed. According to Healthline.com one study found sleepers

had a deeper state of sleep and felt more energized after using lavender

oil before bed. I can actually attest to this. Nights where I’m jet lagged or having

a hard time falling asleep a spritz of lavender oil has helped calm and relax me

right into a comfortable night of sleep.
